One of the scariest day of our lives.

Last week, our 3 1/2 year old son woke up with pains in his stomach..which isn't abnormal for him. He's recently started taking Lacteeze pills for an allergy to milk...anyways, we knew it was something more when he was sitting in his daddy's arms and his entire body went limp. We called his name a few times without a response so we got ready and took him straight to the IWK Children's Hospital. I'm not even sure if he slept the entire way there or was passing out.

We got to the hospital, was sitting in the waiting room after registering when I had to get him reassessed cause his heart beat was beating so strong and fast that I literally could feel it through all his clothes, all my clothes and jackets. The nurse checked him and sent us back to a room right away. He was so lethargic during this whole time that it was like moving a body that was in a really deep sleep.

They did some blood work, which showed his white blood count as being either 17 or 27..I heard two different numbers so I'm not sure....anyways, we knew he had an infection but where? The x-ray they did showed nothing so they decided to do an ultrasound. After the technician was done, she left the room and then the doctor came in, which more or less told me they saw something so I asked. She told me they were looking at his appendix and that he had appendicitis. HE IS ONLY 3!!! She said that it was looking very irritated and was surrounded by a huge amount of liquid and this liquid was very thick.

We went back to our room and they immediately began prepping him for surgery...which was so hard. They had to try to get his IV in twice cause his vein popped and he just cried...which made me cry cause I couldn't confort him...all I could do was stand there by his side and let him know I wasn't going anywhere. This broke my heart..not being able to comfort my little man. Anyways, they finally got it in and he was out of it again only this time when the surgeons came in to do their assessment, he didn't even budge. They poked and prodded his stomach but because he didn't show any signs of pain while they were doing this, they were not convinced he had appendicitis and opted not to operate. He was however admitted for observation.

Blood work was done again the next morning, which showed his white blood count to have gone down. They were going to discharge him then but I said no, I didn't want him going without knowing what was causing my son this pain. They kept him in another night, did more blood work that would look deeper into things but that came back normal so they had no choice but to release him...so we left WITHOUT ANSWERS TO OUR QUESTIONS. They told us that if he gets like that again to bring him back.

It's all so frustrating cause nobody wants to see a child suffer, especially when it's your own. I just wish we knew what was wrong with our little man and what is causing him this pain!
